Reliable connectivity is now essential to the success of almost every event, particularly when organisers rely on card terminals to take payments.
Fuse Telecom recently provided temporary managed Wi-Fi for the Tropical Bird Show, supporting the event team’s card terminals and staff devices throughout the show.
The event was held in a large sports hall where the available mobile signal had previously proved unreliable. During the previous year’s event, poor signal inside the venue meant the organisers’ card terminals struggled to connect, making it difficult to process payments.
Our aim was to provide a reliable, fully managed solution that would be installed, tested and ready before the doors opened on Sunday.
Understanding the venue
Large event spaces can be challenging environments for temporary connectivity. Their size, construction and internal layout can all affect mobile and wireless signals.
The sports hall also needed to accommodate bird enclosures, exhibitor stands, sales tables and staff working across different areas. Relying on a single router or the venue’s existing mobile signal would not have provided the coverage or resilience required.
Our team therefore planned a temporary network designed specifically around the hall and the requirements of the event.

A fully managed temporary Wi-Fi solution
To provide connectivity throughout the venue, Fuse Telecom supplied:
- A multi-network 5G Cradlepoint router
- Two wireless access points
- A managed network switch
- Multiple Cat6 data cables
- Connectivity for the organisers’ card terminals
- A dedicated Wi-Fi connection for event staff
The multi-network 5G solution gave the equipment access to more than one mobile network, allowing it to use the strongest available connection rather than depending on a single provider.
The two access points were positioned in separate areas of the hall and connected back to the central equipment using Cat6 cabling and the network switch. This helped distribute the Wi-Fi signal across the venue and provide more consistent coverage for the devices that needed it.

Installed and tested before the event
For event organisers, finding out that the Wi-Fi does not work when exhibitors and visitors have already arrived is far too late.
That is why our in-house engineer attended the venue on Saturday, the day before the event, to install and test the equipment.
The Cradlepoint router, switch, access points and Cat6 cabling were set up while the organisers and exhibitors prepared the hall. Our engineer then tested the connection and Wi-Fi coverage across the different areas of the venue.
Completing the work in advance meant the organisers could connect their card terminals and staff devices before the event began. It also gave our team time to make any necessary adjustments without disrupting exhibitors or visitors.
By the time the doors opened on Sunday, the temporary network was already live, tested and ready to use.

Reliable connectivity across the hall
Once the show was under way, the managed Wi-Fi supported the organisers’ card terminals and staff connectivity throughout the event.
The access points provided coverage across the sports hall, allowing staff to remain connected without having to rely on the venue’s limited mobile signal.
The result was a much smoother experience for the organisers and their customers, particularly when processing card payments.
The feedback we received was excellent:
“Fuse Telecom made such a difference to this year’s event. The card terminals wouldn’t work last year because of how poor the signal is in here, so thank you so much!”
It may also have been our noisiest site visit to date, but it was certainly one of the most colourful!

Why managed event Wi-Fi matters
Taking card payments at events using an unreliable public network or weak mobile signal can create several problems. Transactions may take longer to process, terminals can repeatedly disconnect and, in some cases, vendors may be unable to accept card payments at all.
A managed event Wi-Fi solution is planned around the venue, the number of users and the devices that need to connect.
Fuse Telecom can provide temporary connectivity for:
- Card terminals and point-of-sale systems
- Event organisers and operational teams
- Exhibitors and vendors
- Registration and ticketing desks
- Production teams
- Guest Wi-Fi
- Live demonstrations and presentations
Our equipment can be hired for a single day, a full weekend or a longer period. Every solution can include installation, testing and ongoing technical support from our team.
