September Round-Up: Managed Infrastructure Across the UK

September round-up: 40 buildings, five stores and one Basil Brush 🦊

September took the Fuse Telecom team from Newcastle to Belgravia, with building surveys, retail upgrades, new tenant connections and a few familiar faces along the way.

There was plenty happening behind the scenes too, as we began work on a major new portfolio and continued building partnerships that help our clients get more from their properties.

Here’s what we’ve been up to 👇

40 sites in Belgravia… send in Aussie Mick! 🇦🇺

We’re delighted to have been appointed managed service provider for a new portfolio belonging to one of the UK’s largest landlords.

The project took our independent cabling engineer, affectionately known as Aussie Mick, to 40 sites across Belgravia, London. His job? Investigate each building, survey the existing infrastructure and establish what’s needed for a smooth installation.

We’re preparing each building for a 10Gbps managed infrastructure, taking responsibility for the setup and ongoing management.

Two sites are still in development, so we’re also working with Openreach early to plan fibre access around the foundations and building works. Getting involved at this stage helps avoid installation headaches further down the line.

Of course, Mick managed to squeeze in a little sightseeing between surveys. And here’s a fact you might not know: he’s previously cabled Buckingham Palace 👑

So, yes, we think the buildings are in very good hands!

Five Skechers stores, one busy London trip 👟

While Mick was working his way around Belgravia, Simon and Justin visited five Skechers stores across London to upgrade their managed infrastructure ahead of the PSTN switch-off.

The work focused on improving the setup supporting each store’s day-to-day operations, helping the teams work more efficiently and preparing their services for the move away from legacy lines.

For retail businesses, infrastructure needs to work around the people using it. These visits gave us the opportunity to review each store’s requirements and make the upgrades needed on site.

Savills in Ayr, gets an upgrade 📍

We also upgraded Savills’ Ayr office with a business broadband connection ahead of the PSTN switch-off.

By replacing the legacy service now, we’re helping the team prepare for the change and keeping another busy office connected.

Keeping 20+ tenants connected 🔄

We also successfully delivered a backup failover connection at one of our longstanding pre-connected buildings in London.

With more than 20 tenant businesses relying on the building’s connectivity, resilience is a big priority. If the primary connection goes down, the backup is there to keep businesses connected and reduce disruption to their working day.

It’s another example of how our role continues beyond the initial installation, strengthening the infrastructure as the needs of each building evolve.

Partner catch-ups, Basil Brush and Judge Jules 🎶

Back in Newcastle, we attended Eclipse’s annual partner event. It was brilliantly organised and a great opportunity to catch up with our account managers, meet new contacts and talk about how we can keep delivering for our clients.

Then came Giacom’s Imagine Nation event in London, which coincided with our site visits.

Among the highlights? Meeting Basil Brush and dancing to Judge Jules. A fairly impressive combination for a work trip!

Thank you to both teams for bringing everyone together. These relationships play a big part in the service we deliver, and it’s always good to spend time with the people behind them.

Ten new clients joining our pre-connected buildings 🏢

September also saw us welcome 10 new clients, with some exciting businesses moving into our pre-connected buildings.

Our approach is straightforward: make getting connected easy, keep the infrastructure properly managed and offer competitive pricing.

That gives building managers and landlords confidence when recommending Fuse Telecom to incoming tenants, with a team ready to manage the connection and support around it.

We’ve always believed the proposition has to make commercial sense too. If shared building bandwidth costs more than a business bringing in its own dedicated line, it’s easy to see why they would choose that route.

By keeping pricing competitive and taking responsibility for the service, we give tenants a compelling reason to use the infrastructure already available in their building. It’s why the model works so well.

Fuse Telecom × Newmark: a partnership that works both ways 🤝

During the same London trip, Alicia met with Newmark to catch up on our growing partnership.

Following Clive Christian’s positive experience with Fuse Telecom from start to finish, Newmark has continued introducing us to retail clients who need support with their connectivity and managed infrastructure.

The relationship works both ways, with Newmark also acting as the selected rating adviser for a number of our clients.

It’s a great example of how a good client experience can lead to a lasting partnership, bringing the right expertise together for the businesses we support.

What’s next?

With the Belgravia portfolio progressing, more businesses joining our pre-connected buildings and further infrastructure upgrades ahead, October is already looking super busy!

If you manage a building or a portfolio of sites and want an honest view of how your infrastructure could work better, get in touch with our team.

And if your building happens to be a palace, Mick’s got experience there too 😉

Engineer checking network cabling and equipment inside a communications cabinet.

What September taught us about connected buildings and retail sites

More bandwidth is often the first answer people reach for when a connection feels slow. This month, our work across a student accommodation development and a national retail portfolio reinforced why we start by looking at the whole site.

A fast connection matters. So do the switches, cabling, Wi-Fi and legacy services that sit behind it. If one part of that setup cannot support what the site needs, increasing the speed coming into the building may leave the everyday problem untouched.

Three leased lines, but a 100Mbps limit inside

At one student accommodation development we inspected, three separate 1Gbps leased lines were already in place. On paper, that meant 3Gbps of incoming capacity across the site. Yet some of the switches distributing those connections were only capable of 100Mbps.

We also found switches linked in a chain and a network without the separation needed to manage different users and services effectively. Adding more bandwidth at the point of entry would not address those restrictions. Each building's connection still needs to travel through the equipment and cabling between the main cabinet and the people using it.

The lesson was straightforward: before recommending a faster line, trace the route the service takes. Check switch capacity, cabling, access points and network design. Then decide where an upgrade will actually make a difference.

For this development, that means planning improvements to the internal infrastructure alongside the connectivity, with the aim of giving students a more consistent experience throughout the buildings.

Retail upgrades start with understanding what each line does

September also brought the approaching PSTN switch-off into focus for our retail clients. Traditional phone lines are due to be retired by 31 January 2027. For a business with multiple stores, preparing for that change is more involved than replacing a handset.

A legacy line may support a phone number, an alarm, a payment terminal or a lift emergency phone. Lift lines deserve particular attention: if someone becomes trapped, they need a working way to contact a rescue service. If that communication fails because an analogue line has been retired without a suitable replacement, the building owner could face serious safety and liability issues. It may also affect an insurance claim, depending on the policy terms and circumstances; building owners should check the position with their insurer and lift maintenance provider.

That is why we are reviewing what is live at each location, identifying how each service is used and agreeing the right replacement or cease before placing orders. For lift lines, the replacement must be compatible with the lift alarm and tested end to end, including how it will work during a power or network outage.

We have also been progressing connectivity upgrades at retail sites so that new digital services have the right foundation. That involves checking availability, installation requirements, site access and the time needed to get each location ready. Across a portfolio, those details matter just as much as the product selected.

The common thread: understand the site before changing the service

These projects look different, but they lead to the same conclusion. A building can have plenty of bandwidth and still struggle because its internal network limits it. A store can have a working line today and still need a plan for the service or device that depends on it.

Our job is to look beyond the connection: understand what people rely on, find the constraint and take responsibility for a solution that works across the whole site.

If you manage a building or a portfolio of locations and are unsure whether your infrastructure is ready for what comes next, speak to the Fuse Telecom team. We can review the setup, identify what needs attention and help you plan the next steps.

Managed infrastructure specialist supporting a commercial building network

August at Fuse Telecom: Expanding Our Managed Infrastructure Services

August was another busy month for the Fuse Telecom team, supporting everything from temporary event Wi-Fi and new tenant connections to complex infrastructure upgrades and nationwide infrastructure projects.

Keeping the Tropical Bird Show connected

We started the month by providing temporary event Wi-Fi for the Tropical Bird Show at Tynemouth Station.

Our managed solution provided reliable connectivity for the event’s organisers and vendors, demonstrating how temporary Wi-Fi can support events without venues needing to invest in permanent infrastructure.

Simplifying infrastructure at a London pre-connected building

The team also completed an infrastructure upgrade at one of our pre-connected buildings in London, owned by a client with an extensive commercial property portfolio.

Alongside upgrading the building’s connectivity, Fuse Telecom took over the management of its firewall and completed a full comms cabinet rack tidy.

During our assessment, we identified almost £30,000 worth of switches and firewalls that were not required for the size or needs of the premises. The unnecessary hardware has now been carefully removed and can be redistributed across other buildings within the client’s portfolio, allowing them to make better use of their existing investment.

Over-specified infrastructure is something we regularly uncover when reviewing commercial buildings, particularly where previous recommendations have introduced unnecessary hardware, complexity and ongoing costs.

Our focus was to simplify the setup, improve its organisation and ensure the building has the right infrastructure for its current and future requirements. Taking a practical, needs-led approach has allowed the client to improve the site’s network while releasing valuable equipment for use elsewhere across its portfolio.

Welcoming AspinallVerdi to Maybrook House

Closer to home, we welcomed AspinallVerdi to the Fuse Telecom infrastructure at Maybrook House, one of our pre-connected buildings in Newcastle.

As the connectivity infrastructure was already in place, the team could access a reliable, business-grade service without the usual delays associated with ordering and installing a new leased line.

Pre-connecting commercial buildings makes the moving-in process easier for new tenants while giving landlords another valuable feature to promote when marketing available office space.

Supporting a nationwide PSTN rollout

We are currently supporting one of the UK’s largest landlords with a nationwide review of its legacy PSTN services ahead of the January 2027 switch-off.

Rather than taking a one-size-fits-all approach, our team is working directly with building managers and facilities teams at each premises to understand the requirements of the building, its tenants and any critical systems that rely on the existing connectivity.

This allows us to identify the purpose of every legacy line and determine whether the service needs to be upgraded, replaced or cancelled if it is no longer required.

Across a number of buildings, we are replacing traditional broadband services with dedicated leased lines to improve reliability, business efficiency and day-to-day operations. This also provides a more resilient and secure foundation for essential building management systems, where dependable connectivity is critical.

The nationwide review is also identifying opportunities to remove unnecessary services and reduce ongoing costs. Savings made across the wider portfolio can then be reinvested into the landlord’s central London buildings and future digital infrastructure.

Working with one managed connectivity partner provides greater visibility across the entire portfolio, simplifies billing and creates a consistent approach to connectivity, security, upgrades, cancellations and ongoing support.

Developing a managed CCTV connectivity strategy

We have also entered discussions with a major security provider to develop a managed connectivity strategy for CCTV systems across its property portfolio in Scotland.

The proposed solution would simplify billing, create greater consistency between sites and provide the business with one managed partner for its wider CCTV connectivity requirements.

This includes supporting a significant new mixed-use development comprising seven multi-tenanted office buildings alongside retail space.

Developments of this scale benefit from connectivity being considered at an early stage, ensuring that CCTV, security systems and wider building technology are supported by resilient and properly managed infrastructure from the outset.

Expanding our managed firewall support

August marked an important development for Fuse Telecom as we expanded our managed infrastructure offering to include in-house firewall support for a growing number of clients.

Previously, we have experienced issues within pre-connected buildings where the firewall was managed by an external provider, instructed by our client. Although the connectivity and wider building infrastructure were managed by Fuse Telecom, limited visibility and control of the firewall could make it more difficult to identify and resolve issues quickly.

By bringing firewall management in-house, our team gains greater visibility and control across the building’s complete digital infrastructure. This allows us to monitor performance more effectively, identify potential issues sooner and take greater ownership of the resolution process.

For our clients, it means fewer suppliers, clearer accountability and one experienced managed infrastructure partner overseeing the connectivity, firewall and wider network.

This is an important step in the continued development of our pre-connected building solution, helping us reduce avoidable issues and deliver a more joined-up, reliable and secure service for landlords, building managers and tenants.

Looking ahead

August’s projects reflect the variety of work delivered by our team - from temporary event Wi-Fi and individual tenant connections to complex building upgrades and nationwide infrastructure strategies.

Whether we are supporting a single business, a multi-tenanted building or an entire property portfolio, our aim remains the same: to simplify connectivity, reduce unnecessary costs and provide clients with one trusted partner for their digital infrastructure.

Fully managed multi-tenanted commercial workspace on Grosvenor Street in Mayfair, London

Fully Managed Workspaces Are in Demand - Is Your Building’s Digital Infrastructure Ready?

The successful launch of a building on Grosvenor Street provides a clear indication of the continued demand for high-quality, fully managed workspace in London.

The Grade II listed building has been thoughtfully reimagined to provide more than 10,700 sq. ft of flexible workspace across six floors, complemented by a private landscaped garden in the heart of Mayfair.

More than 70% of the building was pre-let ahead of completion, with the remaining space now under offer. It is an impressive milestone that demonstrates what modern occupiers are looking for: well-designed, flexible workspace that is ready to support their business from the moment they move in.

However, delivering a truly fully managed workspace requires more than an exceptional physical environment. Reliable, secure and professionally managed digital infrastructure is now fundamental to the occupier experience.

Connectivity is part of the workspace

Businesses moving into a fully managed building expect their internet connectivity to be live, reliable and capable of supporting their operations immediately.

Delays arranging a new connection, uncertainty surrounding responsibility for the network or poor Wi-Fi coverage can quickly undermine an otherwise premium workspace.

Fuse Telecom manages the complete digital infrastructure of single and multi-tenanted commercial buildings, giving landlords, managing agents and occupiers one experienced partner for the building’s connectivity.

Rather than every tenant independently ordering and managing a separate service, we can install a high-capacity leased line into the building and securely segment the connection. Each occupier benefits from their own private and secure internet service, with clear visibility and control over their individual connection.

This creates a smoother move-in experience for tenants while providing the flexibility to upgrade bandwidth as their requirements change.

Tenant connectivity must be competitively priced

A fully managed service should make connectivity simpler and better value for tenants - not lock them into outdated leased line pricing.

We regularly encounter buildings where occupiers are being quoted legacy connectivity costs that no longer reflect today’s market. If a tenant can independently bring a new dedicated leased line into the building for less than the price of using the building’s existing managed connection, there is a problem with the commercial model.

This can create unnecessary friction during lettings, weaken the appeal of a managed workspace and encourage tenants to install separate services. The result is often multiple suppliers, duplicated infrastructure and a building network that becomes increasingly difficult to manage.

Fuse Telecom regularly reviews supplier pricing to ensure that tenants receive a secure, dedicated connection at a fair and commercially competitive rate. By installing a high-capacity leased line and securely segmenting the service, each tenant benefits from their own private connection without paying inflated legacy costs.

Landlords and managing agents can still provide the convenience and support of a fully managed service, while occupiers receive transparent pricing that represents genuine value.

When tenants can access reliable connectivity quickly, securely and at a competitive price, the building’s digital infrastructure becomes a genuine selling point - not a barrier to occupation.

Managing the complete building network

Our service extends beyond supplying an internet connection. We can design, install and manage the building’s entire wired and wireless network, including:

  • High-capacity leased line connectivity
  • Secure, dedicated tenant networks
  • Managed wired and wireless connections
  • Business and guest Wi-Fi
  • Network monitoring and ongoing technical support
  • Connectivity for communal and flexible workspace
  • Building management systems
  • CCTV, access control and other connected building technology
  • Resilient and backup connectivity

Different services can be securely separated across the building, ensuring that tenants, guests and operational systems do not share the same network.

This allows landlords and managing agents to provide a consistent, professional service while maintaining security across every part of the building.

Supporting building management systems

Modern commercial buildings depend on connected technology to operate effectively. Heating, ventilation, access control, CCTV, energy monitoring, lifts and other building management systems may all require reliable connectivity.

Fuse Telecom can provide and manage the infrastructure supporting these systems, helping property teams maintain visibility and avoid relying on a collection of disconnected services from multiple suppliers.

By managing both tenant connectivity and operational networks, we provide a clearer understanding of how the building is connected and who is responsible for each element.

Identifying unnecessary legacy costs

Commercial buildings often retain telephone lines and legacy services long after their original purpose has disappeared.

These may previously have supported alarm systems, lift lines, fax machines, payment terminals or building management equipment. In some cases, the equipment has already been removed or upgraded, but the associated line continues to appear on the monthly bill.

Fuse Telecom can review the legacy services within a building and provide practical consultancy advice on what should be retained, upgraded or ceased.

Where a service is still required, we can recommend an appropriate modern replacement. Where it is no longer being used, we can help remove the unnecessary cost.

One managed service provider for the building

Fully managed workspace should feel straightforward for both the occupier and the property team.

With Fuse Telecom acting as the building’s managed service provider, landlords and managing agents have one point of contact for connectivity, Wi-Fi, tenant networks, building systems and legacy service reviews.

We take responsibility for the infrastructure behind the workspace, helping to deliver:

  • Faster and simpler tenant onboarding
  • Secure connectivity for every occupier
  • Greater visibility across the building network
  • Consistent wired and wireless coverage
  • Reduced reliance on multiple suppliers
  • Proactive support and ongoing management
  • Opportunities to remove unnecessary costs

The success of developments such as the premise on Grosvenor Street shows that demand for exceptional, fully managed workspace remains strong. As the market continues to grow, the buildings that stand out will be those that combine outstanding design with digital infrastructure that is equally well considered.

Fuse Telecom helps landlords, managing agents and workspace operators deliver connected buildings that are ready for occupiers from day one.

Why connectivity is becoming the foundation of digital infrastructure

The distinction between telecoms, IT and building technology is becoming increasingly blurred.

Across the UK, major providers are combining connectivity with cloud services, cybersecurity, managed IT, IoT and smart-building technology. At the same time, commercial properties are becoming increasingly dependent on connected systems - from guest Wi-Fi and hosted voice to CCTV, access control, building management systems and card-payment terminals.

This convergence is changing what businesses, landlords and property managers should expect from their connectivity partners.

Reliable internet access remains essential, but it is now only one part of a much wider digital infrastructure strategy.

Moving beyond traditional telecoms

The proposed merger between TalkTalk Business and managed technology provider ARO is a clear example of how the market is evolving.

The combined organisation is expected to bring together connectivity, networking and communications with cloud, cybersecurity and managed IT services, creating a technology group with approximately £200 million in annual revenue and more than 70,000 organisational customers.

Similarly, Vodafone Business and Tata Consultancy Services have announced a UK partnership covering connectivity, cloud, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, IoT, network modernisation and managed services.

These developments demonstrate that customers increasingly want joined-up solutions and clear accountability across their technology infrastructure.

However, this does not mean every connectivity provider needs to become a full-service IT company.

For Fuse Telecom, our role is to provide and manage the network foundation on which these wider technologies depend. This includes:

  • Dedicated leased-line connectivity
  • Managed business Wi-Fi
  • Secure VLANs and network segmentation
  • Resilient 5G backup
  • Hosted voice and cloud communications
  • Building-wide connectivity infrastructure
  • Temporary event connectivity

We then work alongside trusted IT, cybersecurity, BMS, CCTV and access-control specialists, allowing each partner to retain responsibility for their area of expertise.

The result is a more collaborative approach to digital infrastructure without unnecessary overlap or confusion.

Legacy-line migration requires more than a switch-off countdown

The transition from the UK’s legacy telephone network to digital services is another area where specialist knowledge is becoming increasingly important.

Openreach recently introduced additional support for migrating legacy services where the telephone line and broadband are supplied by different providers.

These split-provider arrangements can create complications. If the voice service is moved or the number is ported incorrectly, the associated broadband or another service using the line could be disrupted.

This situation is particularly relevant to commercial-property portfolios, where services have often been installed at different times and by different suppliers.

For example, a landlord may pay one provider for the physical telephone line while a separate company manages the broadband, alarm, lift telephone or monitoring service connected to it.

A meaningful legacy-line audit should therefore establish more than how many telephone lines appear on an invoice. It should also identify:

  • Who supplies and invoices for the physical line
  • Whether broadband is provided separately over that line
  • Whether the line supports a lift, alarm, intercom, payment terminal or monitoring system
  • Whether an existing telephone number needs to be retained
  • Which digital replacement provides the appropriate resilience

With more than 150 legacy lines already transferred to Fuse Telecom for review, we are helping customers understand what each line supports before recommending whether it should be upgraded, replaced or ceased.

The objective is not simply to migrate services. It is to do so without disrupting the building systems and business operations that rely on them.

Connected buildings require connected expertise

Commercial buildings now contain an increasingly diverse range of connected systems.

A modern property may require connectivity for its tenants, reception team, guest areas, CCTV network, access control, lifts, alarms, environmental monitoring and building management systems. Hotels and hospitality venues may also need guest-room technology, conference connectivity, card-payment resilience and occupancy monitoring.

A recently published smart-building case study for the £125 million redevelopment of Fairmont Cheshire illustrates this growing complexity. The project integrates guest-room management, HVAC, lighting, occupancy data, emergency-lighting testing and fault monitoring into a centralised environment.

While the visible technology may be supplied by several different specialists, every connected system ultimately depends on the underlying network.

That network must be carefully designed to provide:

  • Suitable bandwidth and coverage
  • Secure separation between systems and users
  • Resilience for operationally critical services
  • Appropriate access for authorised contractors
  • Ongoing monitoring and support
  • Capacity for future technologies and occupiers

This is why connectivity should be considered early in the design, refurbishment or occupation process - not treated as a late-stage order shortly before a building opens.

Bringing connectivity, M&E, security, BMS and IT partners together earlier helps prevent duplicated infrastructure, security gaps, delayed installations and unexpected costs.

Mobile connectivity must be tested at the location

Mobile connectivity is another area where national performance data only tells part of the story.

Recent UK testing found that EE retained the strongest overall performance during the first half of 2026, achieving a UK-wide median download speed of 130.3Mbps. Vodafone also increased its metropolitan performance as the integration of Vodafone and Three continued.

National rankings can help identify suitable networks, but they cannot confirm which provider will perform best inside a particular building or at a temporary event.

Construction materials, local coverage, surrounding buildings, network congestion and the number of connected users can all affect performance.

This is particularly important when mobile connectivity is being used for:

  • Temporary event Wi-Fi
  • Card-payment terminals
  • Business continuity
  • Leased-line backup
  • Construction or development sites
  • Temporary retail and hospitality venues

For the recent Tropical Bird Show at Tynemouth Station, Fuse Telecom tested the equipment and available signal in advance, considered the number of vendors requiring connectivity and positioned access points around the event’s actual layout.

This site-specific approach provides considerably more confidence than selecting a network based solely on national coverage claims.

The network ranked best nationally may not be the best-performing network at your venue.

A partnership-led approach to digital infrastructure

As buildings and businesses become more connected, no single supplier needs to deliver every part of the technology environment.

The strongest projects are often based on collaboration between specialist partners:

  • Connectivity providers manage circuits, networks, Wi-Fi, resilience and segmentation.
  • IT companies manage devices, Microsoft 365, cybersecurity and end-user support.
  • Security specialists manage CCTV, access control and alarm technology.
  • BMS and controls companies manage intelligent-building systems.
  • Property consultants and managing agents coordinate the requirements of landlords and occupiers.

The essential point is that these technologies must be designed to work together.

At Fuse Telecom, we work alongside existing IT and building-technology partners rather than competing for the same responsibilities. This allows customers to retain their trusted specialists while benefiting from one accountable partner for the underlying connectivity and managed-network environment.

Building the infrastructure behind better-connected places

The telecoms market is becoming part of a much broader digital infrastructure market.

For landlords, developers and managing agents, this creates an opportunity to take a more strategic approach to connectivity - one which considers the building’s operational systems, occupier experience and future technology requirements as a whole.

Whether it involves preparing a property for the legacy-network switch-off, connecting a new tenant, supporting building-management technology or providing resilient event Wi-Fi, the underlying principle is the same:

Smart technology should feel effortless to the people using it, but the network supporting it must be carefully designed, secured and managed.

July Round-Up: Connected Buildings, Upgrades & Growing Clients

July has been another incredibly busy month for the team, with projects delivered across the UK, new buildings going live and more organisations preparing for the UK's PSTN Switch Off.

Here's what we've been up to...

🏢 Supporting growing retail & charity organisations

We've continued working alongside several of our long-standing retail and charity customers as they expand their estates, providing everything from full fibre broadband to dedicated leased lines to ensure every new location is connected from day one.

Reliable connectivity shouldn't be something businesses have to think about when opening a new site - it should already be there.

Ms Society.jpg

🚉 Improving connectivity at a major train station

This month also saw us on-site at a train station where we're upgrading the existing leased line infrastructure to support both CCTV and public guest Wi-Fi.

The project not only strengthens the connectivity required for critical security systems but also enhances the visitor experience by delivering reliable Wi-Fi throughout designated operating hours.

Img 1856Img 1866

☎️ Helping businesses prepare for the PSTN Switch Off

With the January 2027 deadline fast approaching, we've continued supporting organisations as they transition away from legacy BT services.

This month, one of the UK's largest landlords entrusted Fuse Telecom with the management of over 150 legacy BT lines across its property portfolio.

Rather than simply replacing every line, we're taking a consultative approach by:

  • Identifying the purpose of every existing line.
  • Upgrading services where they're still required, whether that's digital voice, SOGEA, fibre or dedicated leased line connectivity.
  • Migrating legacy lift lines to modern solutions.
  • Reviewing existing handsets to ensure they're compatible with digital services.
  • Cancelling any redundant lines, helping reduce unnecessary ongoing costs.

For us, the PSTN Switch Off isn't just about replacing ageing technology - it's an opportunity to help organisations simplify their connectivity, remove legacy services they no longer need and future-proof their estates with the right solution for every site.

The Great Switch Off

🏗️ Five Connected Buildings officially went live

July marked a huge milestone as Northumberland House, Baltic Works and Gosforth Central all reached key stages in their connectivity transformation.

At Northumberland House, tenants can now move into offices with enterprise-grade leased line connectivity already in place, replacing ageing ADSL services and dramatically reducing the time it takes to get online.

Meanwhile, Baltic Works has undergone an incredible transformation, with our managed connectivity supporting everything from the building's operational infrastructure to guest Wi-Fi throughout communal areas, breakout spaces and even the on-site gym - meaning tenants can enjoy a seamless connected experience wherever they are in the building.

We've also completed a major infrastructure upgrade at Gosforth Central. Following the centre's recent rebrand into a vibrant destination for independent retailers, local businesses and the wider community, we've upgraded the existing managed connectivity we've supported for several years onto a dedicated leased line. The enhanced infrastructure now delivers faster, more resilient connectivity for guest Wi-Fi, building management systems and the retailers operating throughout the centre, helping ensure visitors and businesses benefit from a reliable digital experience.

These projects are another reminder that modern buildings rely on more than great design and parking - they rely on the right connectivity to keep everything running seamlessly.

Leased Line Internet for Office Buildings: How Northumberland House Upgraded from ADSL to Business Fibre

From Legacy ADSL to a Future-Proof Connected Building

Businesses moving into office space often discover that slow broadband delays their opening date. At Northumberland House in Newcastle city centre, only ADSL services were available, making a dedicated leased line the only realistic option for modern businesses requiring reliable, high-speed internet connectivity.

When the landlord of Northumberland House, Newcastle recognised that the building was only served by an ageing ADSL connection offering limited speeds, they understood that upgrading the building's infrastructure would not only improve the experience for existing occupiers but also make the property significantly more attractive to prospective tenants.

That's where Fuse Telecom came in.

The Challenge

Although Northumberland House is located in the heart of Newcastle city centre, the only connectivity readily available within the building area was legacy ADSL. To meet the demands of modern businesses, a dedicated leased line was essential, providing the speed, reliability and resilience today's organisations expect.

The landlord wanted to:

  • Improve the experience for existing tenants.
  • Future-proof the building's connectivity.
  • Attract new businesses looking for enterprise-grade internet.
  • Deliver connectivity from the moment a tenant moved into their new office.

Rather than waiting until each new occupier ordered their own connection, the decision was made to invest in the building's infrastructure.

Our Solution

Fuse Telecom worked closely with the landlord to design and deliver a fully connected building solution.

The project included:

  • Installation of a dedicated leased line into Northumberland House.
  • Cabling infrastructure throughout the building to every floor and office suite.
  • Managed connectivity backed by our UK-based support team.
  • Hosted Voice services for businesses within the building.
  • Competitive pricing for tenants, making enterprise-grade connectivity accessible to businesses of all sizes.

One of the biggest priorities was ensuring no tenant experienced downtime during the project.

While the dedicated fibre service was being installed, we supplied temporary 5G business connectivity to affected tenants, allowing them to continue operating without interruption until the leased line went live.

As a result, businesses remained connected throughout the entire project.

What Our Customer Said

One of the tenants benefiting from the new infrastructure is C4 Sight Care.

After moving onto the building's dedicated leased line, they shared their experience:

"Fuse Telecom made the entire process seamless, delivering our leased line ahead of schedule with excellent communication throughout – the improvement in our speed and reliability has made a real difference to our business and it's been a pleasure working with your team."

A Successful Partnership

This project was a fantastic collaboration between Fuse Telecom and the landlord.

By investing in modern digital infrastructure, Northumberland House has transformed from a building limited by outdated ADSL connectivity into a future-ready commercial workspace offering fast, reliable business connectivity from day one.

The project was delivered ahead of schedule, businesses remained connected throughout thanks to temporary 5G services, and the overwhelmingly positive feedback from tenants highlights the value that high-quality connectivity brings to commercial property.

As more landlords recognise connectivity as a key factor in attracting and retaining tenants, projects like Northumberland House demonstrate how investing in digital infrastructure benefits everyone—from property owners to the businesses that call the building home.

June Round-Up: Projects, Progress & Plenty to Celebrate

June has certainly been one to remember at Fuse Telecom.

From upgrading retail stores across the South of England to surveying new developments in London, launching new customer connections, and preparing businesses for the UK's PSTN switch off, it's been a month packed with exciting projects and milestones.

Keeping Retail Connected

The month kicked off with our Managing Director, Simon, travelling across the South to visit several Skechers stores as part of an ongoing technology upgrade programme.

Our engineers replaced legacy 4G routers with high-performance 5G solutions, upgraded managed network switches and fibre routers, and recommissioned store handsets to ensure every location benefits from faster, more resilient connectivity.

The result? Improved network performance for both customers and store teams, with infrastructure that's ready for the future.

Harrogate Preconnected Building Goes Live

Our team also headed to Harrogate to oversee another preconnected building project.

With the leased line already installed, we carried out comprehensive testing to ensure the customer's Wi-Fi Access Points were delivering the speeds expected from their dedicated connection. It's always rewarding seeing another building ready to welcome tenants with business-grade connectivity from day one.

Another Newcastle Preconnected Building Goes Live

We're delighted to have already welcomed three tenants within the building onto our dedicated leased line connectivity, with businesses taking services ranging from 100Mbps through to 500Mbps, providing the reliable, business-grade connectivity they require.

The project doesn't stop there, though.

The landlord is now looking at transforming two floors into flexible coworking and hot-desking space, with plans for occupants to benefit from a high-performance shared internet connection from day one.

This is exactly where the preconnected building model comes into its own. As buildings evolve and tenant requirements change, the connectivity can evolve with them. Whether that's introducing dedicated VLANs, expanding Wi-Fi coverage, increasing bandwidth or providing separate networks for coworking users, we're able to adapt without major infrastructure changes.

It's one of the reasons landlords continue to work with Fuse Telecom. We manage connectivity across a growing portfolio of preconnected and coworking buildings, helping property owners future-proof their assets while ensuring tenants receive the fast, reliable connectivity modern businesses expect.

A Busy Few Days in London

London kept us busy throughout June with multiple site surveys for an exciting new client that we're looking forward to telling you more about soon.

The project involves modernising several buildings ahead of the PSTN switch off, replacing legacy infrastructure with future-ready connectivity.

Alongside upgrading communications, we're designing connectivity for parks, providing reliable guest Wi-Fi for visitors and dedicated bandwidth to support card payment terminals and day-to-day operations for hospitality businesses operating within these spaces.

Looking Beyond Traditional Connectivity

Innovation never stands still and neither do we.

We've also been exploring connectivity solutions for more remote locations and are incredibly excited about an upcoming enterprise satellite solution that will be launching soon.

The service will provide businesses with greater flexibility, professional support and dependable connectivity in areas where traditional fibre simply isn't available. We can't wait to share more details.

When we send our 5G routers to your site via Royal Mail, they're delivered with a smile and... an occasional pose!

More Businesses Joining the Fuse Telecom Network

Closer to home, we activated new VLANs and managed services within another preconnected building near our HQ. We are preconnecting this building with a leased line for building management facilities, providing a Guest Wi-Fi network in their new gym, break out areas and meeting rooms - the great thing about this connection, is that there's flexibility to enable prospective businesses to move in with secure, business-grade connectivity already in place.

We also welcomed another long-standing customer onto an upgraded solution at the Metrocentre, delivering business broadband, hosted telephony and a fully managed 5G backup service to ensure their busy salon stays connected no matter what.

Here's Justin, provisioning Wi-Fi Access Points for outside a shopping centre to deliver a fast, reliable internet connection for visitors entering and leaving the premises:

Preparing Businesses for the PSTN Switch Off

As the January 2027 PSTN switch off draws closer, we're continuing to help businesses replace ageing infrastructure before the deadline.

This month we delivered a lift emergency SIM solution for an estate agency client in London, ensuring emergency lift communications remain fully operational once traditional analogue lines are retired.

It's another example of how businesses are taking proactive steps now to avoid disruption later.

Solving Real-World Connectivity Challenges

Sometimes improving connectivity isn't about increasing bandwidth - it's about understanding how people actually use a building.

One of our existing clients recently reconfigured their office layout, introducing new partition walls that unexpectedly reduced Wi-Fi coverage across several meeting rooms.

Following a site survey, we installed an additional Wi-Fi 6 Access Point to eliminate the dead spots, restoring seamless wireless coverage throughout the workspace and helping keep meetings, collaboration and day-to-day operations running smoothly.

Here's Adelle carrying out the final checks inside the comms cabinet, ensuring the floor ports for a new business moving into one of our preconnected buildings are correctly patched and ready for their new fibre leased line service:

Ending June the Right Way

After a month spent travelling the country, commissioning new services, upgrading networks and welcoming new customers, it was finally time to pause for an evening together.

The team headed into Newcastle for a fantastic meal at Pani's Italian restaurant, followed by a few well-earned drinks to celebrate what has been an incredibly busy - but equally exciting month for Fuse Telecom.

A huge thank you to all of our customers, partners and colleagues who have been part of our journey throughout June.

We're looking forward to seeing what July has in store!

Fuse Telecom Strengthens Senior Leadership Team

North East-based connectivity provider Fuse Telecom has strengthened its senior leadership team with two key appointments as the business continues to expand across its connectivity, cloud communications and connected building divisions.

The company has appointed Justin Smith as director of operations and Alicia Todd as associate marketing director, reinforcing its commitment to investing in both commercial growth and operational excellence as demand for its services continues to increase across the UK.

Established in 1998, Fuse Telecom provides managed business connectivity, cloud communications and connected building solutions to organisations nationwide. The company supports a diverse client base ranging from independent businesses and commercial landlords to national retailers, luxury brands, asset managers and multi-site organisations, with a growing footprint across the commercial property sector.

Fuse Telecom’s growth has been underpinned by its approach to connected buildings, where the company works closely to deliver commercially realistic connectivity solutions.

By understanding both landlord overheads and tenant expectations, the business has moved away from legacy connectivity models that can often drive occupiers towards alternative providers. This approach has resulted in tenant utilisation rates of more than 90 per cent across many connected buildings, creating greater value for property owners while improving the occupier experience.

Alicia rejoined the business in March 2026 after spending 12 months away from the company. Having previously worked with Fusion Connected, which has since merged fully into Fuse Telecom, Alicia returned to join the senior leadership team at Fuse Telecom under the direction of founder and managing director Simon Dronfield.

As associate marketing director, Alicia leads the company's marketing strategy, communications and client relationship activities, helping to strengthen the Fuse Telecom brand while supporting customer engagement, partner development and business growth.

Her role spans strategic marketing, public relations, client communications and commercial relationship management, ensuring customers and partners remain at the heart of the business as it continues to expand.

Justin was appointed director of operations this month, marking a return to the business following a successful period in consultancy. Having previously played a pivotal role within the organisation, he brings back a wealth of experience and a refreshed perspective gained from working across a variety of complex projects.

In his new role, Justin is responsible for overseeing service delivery and project management, where his expertise in managing multi-connectivity solutions and diverse project environments will further strengthen operational excellence and support the company’s continued growth.

Simon Dronfield, founder and managing director of Fuse Telecom, said:

“As the business continues to grow, it’s important that we strengthen our leadership team with people who understand both our culture and our long-term vision. Alicia and Justin have both played important roles within the wider business over the years and we’re delighted to welcome them back.”

He added:

“Their experience, knowledge and commitment to our customers make them the ideal people to help drive the next stage of Fuse Telecom’s growth.

“We’re seeing increasing demand across all areas of the business and these appointments ensure we have the leadership structure in place to support that growth, while maintaining the high standards of service our customers expect.”

Alicia Todd, associate marketing director at Fuse Telecom, added:

“Having worked alongside Simon previously, returning to the business felt like a natural decision.

“The vision is clear, the business is performing exceptionally well and there are lots of exciting projects happening that we look forward to sharing in due course.

“What stands out most to me about Fuse Telecom is not just the legacy and trust behind the brand, but the way we operate.

“We’re transparent, consultative and genuinely focused on doing what’s right for our customers.

“Whether it’s supporting a new prospect, advising an existing client or investing in the latest technologies and infrastructure, our focus is always on ensuring businesses have connectivity solutions that support them both today and for years to come.”

Justin Smith, director of operations at Fuse Telecom, added:

“It’s great to be back working alongside Simon and the team.

“Having spent time consulting across the industry, it has given me a fresh perspective on what makes Fuse Telecom different.

“The business has strong foundations, a loyal customer base, and a clear vision for the future.

“Through my experience managing multi-connectivity projects and working across a wide range of different implementations, I’ve built strong expertise that I’m now bringing back into the business.

“This experience enables us to deliver well-rounded, reliable solutions backed by proven knowledge and practical understanding.

“We’re focused on delivering the right solutions for our customers, not simply selling products.

“As we continue to grow, maintaining service quality and ensuring every customer receives the support, expertise, and experience they need will remain our top priority.”

Fuse Telecom is currently supporting a number of connected building and digital infrastructure projects across the UK, reflecting growing demand for future-ready connectivity and reinforcing the company’s position as a trusted technology partner for businesses, property owners and asset managers alike.

With a strengthened leadership team, a growing project pipeline and several major initiatives underway, the business is well-positioned to build on its recent success and continue supporting organisations across the UK.

Whether you're planning an office move, upgrading your existing services, or exploring connectivity options, our team is here to help.
